I would like a copy of a record, but I don't know if I should be requesting it from the City of Las Vegas or from Clark County. For example, who would I ask for a copy of the land deed for the Tropicana Hotel?

Most of the Las Vegas Valley is unincorporated, governed by Clark County. For example, the "Strip" is not in the City of Las Vegas. It is confusing because the postal designation "Las Vegas" is applied to the unincorporated areas as well as the City. However, since the City resides in Clark County, contacting the County first is a safe bet. Information for the Clark County Recorder's Office is available on the County's website.
